David Cannon is an official photographer for the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, and his Getty Images photography team works directly with the PGA of America, the European and Australian PGA tours, and the LPGA. His work has frequently appeared in such publications as Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, Time, Newsweek, and all leading golf magazines. He has photographed several of the legendary golfers in the world, including Ernie Els, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Nick Faldo, Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer and many others. He lives in Sussex, England. Ernie Els has been one of the top professional golfers in the world since the mid-1990s. He is nicknamed "The Big Easy" for his fluid, seemingly effortless golf swing. I bought this book several months ago for my son who is very keen on golf course architecture. As many have said, I was surprised at the size - although that is not the reason for my 3* rating. It does clearly state the size as 9" x 6".I just recently had a chance to look closer at the book - and I noticed numerous mistakes, which definitely surprised me. I especially noticed the mistake for the UK courses, as those were my primary interest.I list a few below:1. Opening photos - on the Table of Contents page it lists the preceding photos. For pages 4-5 it says "Lakes Course, Blue Canyon, Phuket, Thailand. The photo is actually Carnoustie - you can see by the clubhouse (compare with the photo on page166 - you can see its the same clubhouse). Plus I recognize it because I was there this summer prior to the Open Championship!2. I am also not sure if the photos on pages 2-3 are actually Turnberry Kintyre #9? In the caption it says "9th hole par 5" but #9 on Kintyre is a par 4?3. Section 3 is "Great Britain and Ireland" - pages 138-139 are corrected identified (caption on page 140) as Lahinch Old #6. But the photos on pages 140-141 are captioned as Lahinch Old as well - and they are not! There are no lakes on Lahinch Old! Is also doesn't appear to be Lahinch Castle course - so which course is it?I looked on page 137 for the courses that are listed which include Celtic Manor, but there are no photos in Section 3 captioned as Celtic Manor. But I am not sure the photos on pages 140-141 are even Celtic Manor?Just surprised that in a book soley about photos of famous golf courses, that photos would be mis-identified. I wonder if there are additional errors that I have not found yet.
Lots of great photos, cool book to peruse through no doubt just be aware it's not an oversized book.I'm a little confused as to the "full spreads and gatefolds—some measuring over five feet in length—and includes a numbered print signed by the photographer." I haven't found anything to be "over five feet in length" or a print signed by photographer yet.
Very disappointed with this book! The photos are small and the captions are almost impossible to read. If you are ordering this book for an avid golfer, save your money.
Mine was not condition as described
The second I took this thing out of the box it went straight on my coffee table. Some of the best photos I've seen and even a few courses that I have never heard of. Makes a great present for the golf fan in your life. Buy this book!
